There’s no place like home. For us at Skyboat Media, home is often inside the booth, armed with Throat Coat and raw honey, with a stack of fresh pages stretched out before us. Some days, we just can’t believe how much we love our jobs. For example, days when a lovely, charming, (pre) Oscar-winning actress arrives to record what is arguably the most iconic piece of storytelling in American culture. Yeah, days like that are pretty wonderful. And by wonderful, we mean THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ.
In 2012, Audible.com launched the a-list collection, “an audiobook series showcasing tour-de-force performances by Hollywood’s biggest stars,” and Skyboat has been lucky enough to be a part of several of these projects, from one end of the rainbow to the other. Gregory Voynow and Charles Weinstock Executive produced, with Stefan Rudnicki and Mike Charzuk as producers. Audie-award winner and Skyboat co-founder Gabrielle de Cuir directed Anne Hathaway down a yellow brick road that led to a downright inspired version of this classic. With Anne’s natural charm and acrobatic voice, and Gabrielle’s legendary velvet glove, it’s no wonder that the result garnered an Audie nod in the category of Female Solo Narration.
Fun fact: Ms. Hathaway’s relationship to the wizard goes even deeper than this incredible audiobook. Hollywood rumor has it she’s set to star as Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic: Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, and in the meantime, she’s made us giggle in this fun Oz-inspired SNL skit.
