EGA Available now on CD …

As most of you know, Skyboat Media has had a long history with Orson Scott Card and ENDER’S GAME (and subsequent works), but even our storied relationship cannot hold a candle to the connection between all things ENDER’S GAME and Emily Rankin.  You see, before she was Emily Rankin, she was Emily Janice Card, and yep, you guessed it, she’s Card’s beloved—and ahem, quite talented—daughter.  We know that many of you out there grew up with ENDER’S GAME, but Emily literally grew up with this quintessential story, not to mention the writer.

Emily has actually collaborated quite a bit with her dad.  Together they co-authored the fantastic sci-fi manga series, LADDERTOP, and Emily actually pulled double-duty to narrate Volume 1 alongside Skyboat’s own Stefan Rudnicki.  (The print version of Vol. 2 will be available on Nov. 5th!  Our fingers are crossed for the audio likely to follow.)

Emily and Stefan also joined forces to narrate OSC’s latest series, beginning with THE LOST GATE, and THE GATE THIEF, and more are en route.  Emily is undoubtedly influenced by her father, both in terms of sci-fi and in their shared adoration of Jane Austen:

However, Emily is absolutely an established artist in her own right, excelling in a variety of arenas as a narrator, writer, director, and actress.  She was the first staff director Skyboat ever had, and she has a keen eye and ear for anything literary. She is a stunning story-teller.  Earlier this year she was awarded with a 2013 Audie in the category of Best Science Fiction for her performance narrating THE AGE OF MIRACLES by Karen Thompson Walker, and not too long before that, she played the lead role in THE DELIVERY, the award-winning short film written and directed by ENDER’S GAME ALIVE’s director Gabrielle de Cuir:

She also wrote, directed, and starred (as Fanny) in JANE AUSTEN FIGHT CLUB, a hilariously funny video that went viral a while back:

It went without saying that we wanted Emily to be a seminal part of ENDER’S GAME ALIVE, and casting her as Bean seemed the perfect fit. Bean is crucial to Ender’s story, and fans know all too well that OSC truly fell in love with this character and went on to write several novels from Bean’s POV.

To Bean, Emily brought equal massive parts of intelligence and vulnerability, creating a lifelike character who’s as much of a lovable smarty-pants as he is a force to be reckoned with.

When she said, “The enemy’s gate is down,” even the walls of the studio got goosebumps.
